Transform Motion Titles within FCPX

When you create a Final Cut Title in Motion 5, the title created for FCPX has a "Title Background" element. This element allows you to apply an effect to the background video in an FCPX Project (such as blur).

If you activate FCPX's Transform controls in an attempt to reposition the title, in this case a lower third, the Primary Storyline video transforms as well as the title.

Although you can open the title in the Titles Browser into Motion 5 to deactivate the background, you can fix this in FCPX. Select the title in your project and create a secondary Storyline containing the title by pressing Command-G.

Now you can transform your title without affecting the background video.

Gotcha: This does not work if an effect has been applied to the Title Background in Motion.

Tip: Avoid this issue the next time you create/modify a Title in Motion by deactivating the Title Background layer if you are not "effecting" the background video.
